ABOUT MAUREEN

My creative practice involves consciously inviting the power of creativity to heal, awaken, and shift energy

Hi, I’m Maureen — The Soulful Creative.

Welcome to my special place where I share my Soulful Art and deep passion for the creative process.

I am a mixed-media artist, creative guide, and a woman in recovery. Most of all, I like to call myself a Creative. For me, being a Creative means honoring the process more than the outcome, because it’s in the process that we discover healing, wisdom, and true connection.

Creativity has been a sacred space for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I found comfort in making things with my hands. Later, during a difficult season of addiction, I stopped creating and felt the absence of that lifeline. In recovery, I rediscovered creativity as a powerful path to healing and transformation.

Creativity is my sanctuary — a quiet place of peace and connection to something greater.

That spark still guides me today, and it is my life purpose & joy to share it with others.

To practice any art no matter how well or badly is a way to make your soul grow, so do it!

My Story

For many years, I looked outside of myself for what I thought I was missing.
I searched for answers, love, wisdom, and acceptance in people, places, and things… and it led me down an addictive path.

My relationships felt empty.
I felt lost and lonely, even in a room full of people.

It was in early recovery that something began to shift.
Slowly, gently, I started to understand that what I had been searching for was never outside of me.
The answers were within… I just needed to find a new path, a new way of being.

My creative soul—my intuitive self—began guiding me back to nature.
I found myself spending more time outside, listening, noticing… and eventually, I picked up my brushes again.

The first painting I created in recovery was of a sunset I had witnessed a few evenings before.
As I painted it in a realistic way, just as I had been taught, it looked like the sunset… but something was missing.

There was a disconnect.
It didn’t hold the feeling.
It didn’t express the depth of my experience or my connection to that moment.

And so, I followed the pull to go deeper.

I began layering the painting, allowing it to become more intuitive, more personal… more true.
I let the story of that sunset unfold through me—what it meant in that moment of my life.

That was the turning point.

Through that process, I discovered what my creative soul had been searching for all along.
I found myself.
I found connection.
I found something sacred.

That single painting became a threshold—
a doorway into a new way of creating, of living, of being.

It showed me that the creative process itself holds wisdom.
That sunset was not just a sunset… it was about letting go of an old life so I could begin again.
Releasing what no longer served me, and making space for something more meaningful, more alive, more true.

Now, over 30 years later, I find myself standing at another threshold—this time as a guide, a wayfinder.

Sharing this path is not just something I do…
it feels like a sacred calling.

I believe that creativity is a doorway back to yourself.
To your inner wisdom.
To your wholeness.

And I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Are you feeling disconnected… or searching for something more?
Do you sense there is something within you waiting to be expressed?

Let me help you open that door.
Let me guide you back to your creative soul.

I really enjoyed Maureen's creative online class. She is very generous and gentle. I found her class to be unique in that she combines soul & art. Setting intentions before beginning gives the art work a deeper meaning and is a perfect exercise for personal development. This particular creative practice she shared will forever be one of my favorites. I intend on continuing to create this way! Thank you Maureen!

Brush Magazine

I was inspired on World Peace Day to create this and that's why I titled it, My Prayer for Peace.

I began to collage bits and pieces of paper, then drawing outline of the figure, then painting and back to college again.

I love going back and forth from wet to dry mediums.

I couldn't think of a better way of spending the day. The meaning behind this image is that  when we make art it is not only healing for ourselves but it benefits all those we are connected to.

The positive energy we cultivate as we create is like an active prayer being sent out into the world. The quote “Kindness is a Vehicle for Peace” by Iqra Khan really embodies the overall message of this piece.
